| The Rural Action Plan |
|
| In 2004 Defra published the Rural Strategy and one requirement stated that each region should hold a consultation to highlight the important priorities in their area. The original Rural Action Plan which was published prior to 2004 was out of date so emda decided the hold the consultation to develop a new Rural Action Plan.
A steering group was formed and the updated Rural Action Plan was published at the beginning of 2007 with annual progress reports being coordinated through EMRAF in 2008.Significant changes in the economy have taken place since the document was originally published, so in early 2009 it was felt there was a need to establish if the document was still fit for purpose. This resulted in the formation of a task and finish group and it was decided that the document needed a new title and a complete re-write rather than just a refresh. The four new priorities for the East Midlands Rural Framework were agreed as follows:
Sustainable and Inclusive Communities (Including Housing)
A Thriving Rural Economy
Quality Services Accessible to All
High Quality Rural Environment
